Day by Michelangelo

From: 67,00

Reproduction of the famous statue by Michelangelo, representing the day.
Product in resin and marble powder with marble base, made in Tuscany and finished by hand.
The original is located in the Sagrestia Nuova, inside the Museo delle Cappelle Medicee.

Day is one of the statues that form part of the funerary complex of the New Sacristy, inside the Medici Chapels, designed and sculpted by Michelangelo between 1520 and 1533. Together with Night, its counterpart, it rests upon the tomb of Giuliano, Duke of Nemours. Day is represented as a man with one arm outstretched, as if looking for something. Unique features are his position, with his back turned to the onlooker, and its being an unfinished work (non-finito). Together with the other three statues in the New Sacristy – Dawn, Night and Dusk – it represents one of the Allegories of Time. These subjects were probably conceived by the artist as a symbol of the Medici family’s victory over the inexorable passing of time itself.
