Rocca di Soragna

The Rocca di Soragna castle is a medieval manor house rebuilt by Bonifacio and Antonio Lupi in 1385.

The Rocca is a historic residence, enriched over time with countless works of art and priceless artifacts from the past. It has always remained the property of the Meli Lupi princes, who still live there today.

The castle is easily accessible from the highway, located in the heart of Emilia, a land of gastronomic excellence and ancient traditions.

The Meli Lupi di Soragna fortress is cited as a precious example of early Baroque: its rooms, in fact, preserve the original furniture and furnishings, mostly made and gilded in Venice, which stand out for their sumptuousness and elegance.

For this reason, it is considered by many to be one of the most sumptuous residences in Italy, the ideal setting for fairytale weddings.

The rooms of the fortress, richly frescoed and furnished with early Baroque furniture, range from 50 to 300 square meters and can accommodate up to 300 people. They are available for wedding receptions, thanks also to our excellent trusted catering service, which can create any type of menu you request.

Entrance

Surrounded on two sides by a dry moat, the castle opens to the outside via a masonry bridge built in the 17th century to replace the original drawbridge. Access to the castle is guarded by two magnificent stone lions holding a ball between their front paws.

Central wing

The Sala del Bocchirale, which connects the courtyard to the garden, contains a splendid 17th-century French tapestry quilted with beads and depicting exotic animals, inherited from the castle of Lux in Burgundy.

Right wing

The Sala del Baglione, or “delle grottesche” (of the grotesques), is so named because it was frescoed by the Cremonese painter Cesare Baglione (16th century), who found his most effective artistic expression in the representation of the so-called “grotesques,” a particular type of ornamentation inspired by Pompeian decorations.

Left wing

The first floor is reached via the grand staircase designed by the Puignaghi brothers of Brescia based on a design by the Piacenza architect Carlo Virginio Draghi. The balustrade is in red Verona marble with seven white stone cherubs.
