Giostra del Saracino, the medieval soul of Arezzo
The exhibition ‘The Colours of the Joust’ is an interactive museum created in 2016 and dedicated to the Joust of the Saracen, a traditional chivalric tournament that still brings the city of Arezzo back to the splendour of its most flourishing Middle Ages.
The Giostra del Saracino is held twice a year in Piazza Grande. The event has medieval origins and pits four quarters against each other in a battle for the Golden Lance. In modern times it has been held continuously since 1931.
The museum, set up on the ground floor of the Palazzo Comunale, tells the story and the characters that make the re-enactment unique through original clothes and objects, digital and interactive technologies, such as immersive projections and information touch screens, virtual and augmented reality experiences.
An immersive museum itinerary, capable of immersing the public in the atmosphere of Piazza Grande, where on the day of the re-enactment, amidst the ringing of trumpets, the rolling of drums, and the acrobatics of flags, a procession of more than four hundred participants turns back the hands of time.
A colourful universe that comes to life thanks to this interactive experience that transports the visitor into a unique dimension, full of emotion, to discover the secrets of the tournament that more than any other reflects the true spirit of Arezzo and its inhabitants.
